East Travis County Democrats are thrilled to welcome Dr. Marsha Burnett-Webster to our
meeting tonight. She is running for the Texas State Board of Education, Region 10, which is our area. Dr. Burnett-Webster is a lifelong educator with 25 years of experience. She is a native Texan from Brennan, Texas. She attended Prairie View A&M University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts. She then earned her Master’s in Education at Prairie View as well. Married to a career military man, she taught in Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, New York and even in Canada. She earned her doctorate in Education from California Coast University. Dr. Burnett-Webster spent her life teaching tech and vocational skills; she experienced the roadblocks of racism and sexism, stating on her website that many folks told her she should stay home and let a man teach shop, especially while she was married. But she persevered, and is ready to represent ALL the children of Texas. Her community engagement includes membership in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Celebrate our Seniors program, past presidency of local PTA, and membership in Mt Rose Missionary Baptist Church. Her political work includes 4 years as a precinct chair, 2 campaigns with Obama for Ohio and both Obama inaugurations, membership in the SDEC anti-harassment committee in 2018 and multiple turns as a delegate to Democratic state conventions. In 2013, she won the Democratic Party Grassroots Award. She wants to work for education free of politics, that is available to all our children. Come and hear Dr. Burnett-Webster Feb 11, 7 pm, at Casa Garcia’s. https://www.webstertxsboe10.com/
