About me: I am a missionary kid and I inherited the "help others" bug. After moving to Austin out of college, I found out about RESULTS and how I could help others in a very big way. By advocating and changing the system! I know my actions have had an impact on people I'll never meet, living all over the world.
By day, I'm a software developer. In my spare time, I'm making a difference, educating policy makers in Washington about the best ways to improve access to health and education for people in low-income countries worldwide. Believe it or not our small Austin RESULTS team has found common ground with all the local members of congress, Republican and Democrat. (Except Chip Roy, but give us time!) Our small staff in DC provides support, training and most importantly strategic direction. With gazillions of things wrong with the world, how can anyone decide where to start? RESULTS' guidance zeros in on some to the very best, proven, & efficient strategies which can improve the lives of hundreds of millions of people. Then we break it down into small actions, undertaken in a coordinated way by volunteers across the country. We've been able to move the needle in Washington, time and again. With RESULTS, I know I'm making a difference, and I believe it is a big difference. From the RESULTS website: RESULTS is a movement of passionate, committed everyday people. Together they use their voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to poverty. Volunteers receive training, support, and inspiration to become skilled advocates. In time, volunteers learn to effectively advise policy makers, guiding them towards decisions that improve access to education, health, and economic opportunity. With every hour of their time, volunteers multiply their impact through the enormous power of advocacy — whether it’s helping change policy to support millions of families putting food on the table or helping raise billions of dollars for the world’s most vulnerable children. Backed by the in-depth research and legislative expertise of staff, RESULTS advocates realize the incredible power they possess to use their voices to change the world.

East Travis County Democrats are thrilled to welcome Dr. Marsha Burnett-Webster to our
meeting tonight. She is running for the Texas State Board of Education, Region 10, which is our area. Dr. Burnett-Webster is a lifelong educator with 25 years of experience. She is a native Texan from Brennan, Texas. She attended Prairie View A&M University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts. She then earned her Master’s in Education at Prairie View as well. Married to a career military man, she taught in Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, New York and even in Canada. She earned her doctorate in Education from California Coast University. Dr. Burnett-Webster spent her life teaching tech and vocational skills; she experienced the roadblocks of racism and sexism, stating on her website that many folks told her she should stay home and let a man teach shop, especially while she was married. But she persevered, and is ready to represent ALL the children of Texas. Her community engagement includes membership in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Celebrate our Seniors program, past presidency of local PTA, and membership in Mt Rose Missionary Baptist Church. Her political work includes 4 years as a precinct chair, 2 campaigns with Obama for Ohio and both Obama inaugurations, membership in the SDEC anti-harassment committee in 2018 and multiple turns as a delegate to Democratic state conventions. In 2013, she won the Democratic Party Grassroots Award. She wants to work for education free of politics, that is available to all our children. Come and hear Dr. Burnett-Webster Feb 11, 7 pm, at Casa Garcia’s. https://www.webstertxsboe10.com/ |
